Our original guitarist is no longer with us due to distance and his shoes need to be filled. I'm looking for someone who plays mandolin to teach me to play it. I teach guitar, bass and ukulele for a living and want to trade lessons. Even if you have never taught music, and you can play a mandolin well, I would trade you for lessons on the instruments I teach.

I have a mandolin, can tune it, play basic chords, etc.

Ok, so every time I post here I say this is the last time, and something keeps making me post again. Looking for either a guitarist with vocal ability (for a duo to start, then after we have a following put together a full band), or a project that needs a killer country southern/classic rock vocalist. I sing Skynyrd, Johnny Cash, Jason Aldean, Bon Jovi, Creed, Garth Brooks, Crash Test Dummies, Greenday, Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie, Pat Green, Craig Morgan, Poison, Guns 'n' Roses, 3 doors down, Jake Owen... What you make of them is really up to you, they are not intrinically miraculous nor evil, so don't go out of your way to convince me. And depending on the club they might be both. So why itch and moan about something and make it worse when you can make it better by either going, or not going. DRUMMERS: Latin Styles for Today's Drummer! (Maine)

Latin Styles for Today's Drummer is an intensive approach to give today's drummer a better grounding and understanding of contemporary Latin styles. The approach includes studies on Latin time feels (Bossa Nova, Mambo, Samba) and those especially related to "broken" time sense, followed by approaches to phrasing and soloing. The approach also includes work with an ostinato, as well as, solo applications followed by a section of extended solos. The Supplemental Section includes time feels and soloing approaches as they relate to 3/4, 5/4 and 7/4 time signatures.

...fumbling with my chord chart....youre correct...Im not smart enough to read tabs....I do write chord charts....I also use number charts....I also realize this makes me a loser.

You express my technique,style and abilities dont worry you.

Im not trying to worry anyone, just making a point...however your comments lead me to believe you have seen me play, I know I suck..thats why
I go to open mics to grow my chops and still take the occasional lesson from those whom are better players than myself. Where did you see my sucky playing anyway?

Greetings

I never thought I'd post here about anything except looking for other musicians, seeking a gig with a band, or a gig which is generally what the CL "Musicians" is supposed to be for.
But here it is. As one who checks the Musicians post regularly and is not interested in seeing the kinds of endless rants like the current batch re: Open Mics, I'd like to offer a suggestion to others who
feel the same way: DON'T ENCOURAGE THEM! It's become pretty clear that there is a responder who, despite a very RICH VOCABULARY, has some kind of personal "issue" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) and
is just waiting in the wings for someone's thoughtful post to slam with that RICH VOCABULARY. It's clear by now that that person is not interested in any kind of discussion but is just drooling
at the opportunity to excercise that RICH VOCABULARY and slam anyone/everyone. It's called "getting your jollies". I cant' wait to see that person's repsonse to this ! (not).
So seriously; could the "community" that uses the Maine CL "Musicians" post stop encouraging thisperson by responding directly to him/her? It's just want he/she wants

Preservation Blues Band is a working blues band looking for a 4th member. The current core group is guitar, bass, and drums. Looking for someone who enjoys the process of creating, recording, making videos, and performing blues, rhythm and blues, bluesy stuff. Our current rep is 50/50 original and blues standards. Our latest recording is all original. We are moving in the direction of all originals.

Some of the artists that inspire us are Howlin Wolf, Sonnyboy II, Champion Jack Dupree, Robert Johnson, Louis Armstrong, Little Walter, Etta James, etc. We are not imitators. We are not afraid to go anywhere with our original material. We rehearse about twice a month in Windham.

I agree with the Wharf posting dude. Man, do you even write yer own songs? 20+ years of bitching is what I hear from you Maine. I would nevah want you in any of my collaborations. You are aboot Money and not The Craft. I like to test new material at open mics and see the venue before I play there. And if you can't get a gig out of it, then you need more practice or are hopelessly stuck in the "musician I will nevah get paid" ZONE. I am happy to play for People....not Money.....Money helps BUT, the People are what I'm here for. What aboot you? And I know I have a Canadian typing accent...I'm working on that. If you really need a buck dood, call me and I will send a check(with the music money I've made that I still have left aftah rockin on and raising my daughtah). Call 737-8211 and I will be happy to debate this topic if you are professional. Ask for Robbie/Doctah....Call and don't be a coward. I have seen about enough, if yer the same dood that has no life and is obsessed with Craigslist rhetoric. But I'm sure this just gives you more fodder to post again making fun of stuff. All kinds of great musicians come down and play at open mics just to have fun, because you know, you have to have play for fun once in a while. If you don't you get all serious about it. Hey, if talent is a gift, it's great to pass it on for free once in a while, right? The cameraderie among musicians is truly wonderful, even beginners are grateful to be able to perform to an audience who is there just for the open mic, to hear them, it's really great.
