SMX diesel or gasoline fuel vacuum gauge with drag pointer for inboard engine boats. The red drag pointer is a second needle that moves with the main black pointer to show the highest vacuum reached until it is manually reset. This allows the user to track a clogged fuel filter without needing to be present when the maximum vacuum occurs, such as during high-speed engine operation.
Drag Pointer: The red "drag" pointer is pushed by the main black pointer and stays at the highest vacuum reading until the user resets it.
Clogged filters: As a fuel filter clogs, the engine's fuel pump has to work harder, increasing the vacuum reading. The red drag pointer will record this maximum vacuum, giving a visual indicator of the filter's condition and when it may need to be changed.
Troubleshooting: By checking the red drag pointer's position, you can see if the filter has been restricting fuel flow, even if the engine is not currently running at its peak. A high reading on the red drag pointer into the red area is a clear sign of a restriction. High vacuum readings can also indicate air leaks in the fuel system, which is crucial to find and fix, especially in diesel engines.
Dealing with the gauge vent: The yellow vent tab is used typically just for shipping so that the fluid inside the gauge doesn’t come out. After installation, you’ll need to flip the yellow tab over to the OPEN position so that the gauge vents properly.
Gauge mount is oriented on the back of the gauge with a 1/8″ NPT brass male thread.
Selling at less than half price as a new, unused out of box gauge that was an extra not needed for my diesel fuel filter set up (see installed pics).
