This is an intricately woven basket with a lid. It is a Ukhamba or a Grass Zulu traditional Basket. The weave is so tight, it is said to be water-tight and can take up to a month to make. This particular basket is woven in 4 colors - natural brown, a dusty pink, dark brown and black. The diamond pattern is said to be feminine. It has a matching lid with a little nub handle. The lid has a very snugged fit to the basket.

Willing to consider reasonable offers.

Every basket is made by hand, using indigenous raw materials. The fronds of the Ilala Palm are commonly used to weave the fine, watertight baskets, and dyes of vegetable origin (i.e. Roots, berries, bark, leaves) to color the palm. It can take up to one month to produce a medium-sized basket that will be unique in size, shape and pattern.

This is a one of a kind piece of hand woven basket art. There is no sign of use and it is in gift quality condition.
