LearningWorks AIMS HIGH
Position Overview - What You Will Give:
The LearningWorks AIMS HIGH program is seeking AmeriCorps members who believe in the power of education and who are committed to helping children thrive. Our dedicated team serves in elementary schools in Portland, Biddeford, Windham, and Saco in Southern Maine. Our members support students' academic, social, and emotional development by:
-Tutoring and mentoring students one-on-one
-Instructing small groups of students
-Supporting teachers in the classroom
-Engaging families and the community
-Leading extended learning opportunities, like afterschool clubs and summer day camps
We have half-time (35-40 hours per week) and minimum-time (12-15 hours per week) openings in Portland, Windham, Biddeford, and Saco.
What You Will Gain:
AIMS HIGH members receive training in academic instruction, classroom management, and community building, so prior experience in education is not required. Members should demonstrate a willingness to learn and a desire to help children reach their full potential. In addition, members will gain hands-on, meaningful experience and grow their leadership abilities, all while making a positive impact in their community.
Half-time members receive a $5,500 annual living allowance (distributed in biweekly increments) and a $3,047.50 Segal education award to put toward future higher education tuition or qualified student loans. Minimum-time members receive a $1,289.95 education award. All members are eligible for federal student loan forbearance (meaning that you are exempt from making loan payments and the National Service Trust pays off interest that accrues during your service). Members over the age of 55 can choose to gift their education award to a child or grandchild within ten years of serving.
-Be at least 17 years of age at the time of enrollment
-Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
-Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency (current high school students 17 years or older are also eligible)
