COLLECTIVE MEMBER HAULING & MARKETING
If you want a flexible part-time job where you can explore your entrepreneurial spirit, be your own boss, and be a part of meaningful community and environmental work, keep reading!

Spoke Folk's hauling services are primarily moving recycling, trash and compost from customers to the Norway/South Paris transfer station with a bicycle and specialized trailer. Spoke Folks is a cooperative employee-owned business – we are looking for someone to help to grow and develop the business, as well as haul.

- riding a bicycle in Norway & South Paris, hauling a trailer with up to 300 lbs of weight; riding year round in all weather conditions (exceptions: when schools are closed or rider deems conditions unsafe)
- sorting trash, recycling, and food scraps to compost
- lifting at least 30 lbs chest high
- Routes currently available are on Tuesdays (anytime 8am to 5pm) and biweekly on Sundays (anytime 8am to 1pm).

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- contributing to our marketing/growth plan and helping to carry it out (this is mostly on the ground work, like flyering neighborhood, talking to neighbors & local businesses and organizations)
- using a computer at least 15 minutes per day of hauling work
- tracking route reports and hours worked, customer info
- attending collective meetings and participating meaningfully in the ownership of the business

QUALIFICATIONS
- a belief in human power as a viable option to motorized vehicles
- a commitment to doing what is best for the whole collective
- an ability to ride a bicycle safely and legally in traffic (training can be provided as needed)
- skills or interest in basic bike maintenance (training can be provided as needed)
- enjoyment of physical labor
- experience or at least desire to nurture, market and grow the business - comfort in reaching out and engaging with neighbors, local businesses, and organizations.
- easy to get ahold of via phone, email, or in person
- reliable, initiative-taking, invested in the business
- able to work independently as well as in a group
- open to giving and receiving constructive feedback
- experience working in collectives/cooperatives or in teams

COMPENSATION & HOURS
- part-time: 4 to 8 hours/week to start, eventually working up to more hours as you want and as work becomes available.
- days of the week for hauling: Tuesdays and biweekly Sundays-- there will be flexibility in the days as time goes on and lots of flexibility in the time of day you ride.
- you choose when to work between transfer station hours:
Closed Monday/Thursday
Hours are 8am-4pm and 8am-1pm on Sunday
- days of the week for marketing/growth: flexible!
- hauling pay is by the job (receive a percentage of income from your route), and works out to between $17 and $22 per hour, depending on your speed and efficiency. Most work can be done independently and at your own pace. We project that as the business grows, this hourly rate will increase.
- admin and marketing/growth pay is $15/hr, and we aim to raise this pay as we grow the business (with your help!).
- We're looking for someone able to make at least a one-year commitment.

PLUSES IN AN APPLICANT
- ability to maintain and fix bicycles and equipment
- marketing skills, business development skills
- secretarial and public relations skills, ability to return phone calls and emails and communicate with customers and the general public
- living in or near Norway/South Paris - most work shifts and meetings are only 2-4 hours long, and some are available spur of the moment, so living close makes it more economical to participate in the collective

WORKER-OWNER COOPERATIVE
Spoke Folks is owned and run by its workers. New workers go through an apprenticeship period. After that, if all of the current full members agree, you'll become a full voting member of the cooperative. We use a consensus process to make decisions.

MORE NOTES
- all trailers and related equipment are provided. Most people use their own bicycles and are responsible for their own maintenance.
- Spoke Folks does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, sex, age, marital status, national origin, veteran status, or sexual orientation. No CORI checks.
- affirmative action: In the event two candidates are deemed equally qualified, Spoke Folks prioritizes hiring women, queer/trans/non-binary people and persons of color.
