Unbelievably deep sound coming from this little 00. Handcrafted by luthier Steve Helgeson in 1999, who made guitars for Greg Allman and Prince among others, this was a custom order built for a regular customer. Sadly, Steve passed away a few years ago, as did the original owner, so the woods on this one are a mystery. The top is quite likely some kind of spruce (Sitka would be my guess) but the back and sides are a total mystery. My guess is either a pretty interesting set of Cocobolo or some kind of South American Rosewood (Bocote is another good guess). It is a very dense wood (guitar weighs just about 5.25 lbs) and you can hear it in the shimmering and bass-rich reflectiveness of the tone. That said, because of the smaller size, standing with it is not a struggle. Lots of play wear consistent with use, dings and scrapes, but no damage or history of repairs. Frets are in good shape with plenty of life, low low action and lots of saddle height. Active undersaddle pickup installed, strap button on heel. I replaced the bridge pins with snakewood pins and the original gold Grovers with a set of black Gotohs (lighter!) but includes original pins and tuners. An awesome player with sound that rivals 10k guitars! Includes original case, missing a latch but functional.
