Cannot speak for the rest of you, but Blues only serves a purpose as a unique bridge in a song, or an extra song type added to a set if you don't have enough in your set list to take up a full hour.
I cannot say I've ever seen , or heard of a 'sold out' or 'for 1 night only' or 'proudly presents' sign posted in any gig window or sidewalk or website, newspaper, fanzine, etc when 'Blues' are being showcased. Blues ONLY showcases the GUITARIST, plain and simple. Everyone else in a 'blues band' might as well be a cardboard cutout, a mannequin, or a hologram.
the only time I've ever seen a crowd at a blues show was when there was free sandwiches and coffee, pony rides, or cheap beer night. An abundance of mullets, barflies, and pudgy mustached guitarists lined up stage-side to play their screechy, feedback plagued, 2 bit version of BB King or Eric Clapton.
I think Blues should be tossed up there on the shelf along with ragtime, polka, and everything by John MellanCougar, Bad Company and Bruce Sweatstain.
Just my thoughts.
