I've recently moved back to Maine from Boston, and I am starting to teach beginner to intermediate students in the area. As someone who has had lessons with many different teachers, and having attended the National Guitar Workshop and University of Maine at Augusta's music program, where I received a minor in music, I understand the value of instruction and guidance along the guitar journey. Through the songs and styles that the student is most interested in I focus on ear training, an understanding of theory and the application thereof, the ability to read music and charts, and the musicianship and professionalism needed in any musical context. I find it important to make sure that the learning process, while productive, remains fun; after all, enjoyment is the reason we all begin playing music, and is the reason we continue to do so throughout our lives. My playing experience lies in the general 'rock' area of music, new and classic, branching into progressive, blues, folk and pop, however I find that the basics of most styles are essentially the same when a student is first beginning; I teach both acoustic and electric, and can focus training on either or both instruments.
