Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Apprentice Carpenter / General Laborer to join our team on Great Diamond Island in Portland, Maine. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in the construction industry while learning from experienced professionals as well a good summer job opportunity for those interested in the trades.
The position requires a daily ferry commute to and from Great Diamond Island. Applicants must be dependable and able to consistently meet ferry schedules. Boat tickets and travel compensation are provided.
No extensive experience is required, but a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and reliability are essential.
Responsibilities:
Assist carpenters with framing, siding, decking, trim work, and general construction tasks
Load, unload, and organize materials and tools
Maintain a clean and safe job site
Operate hand and power tools safely
Assist with demolition and site preparation
Follow instructions from supervisors and crew leaders
Perform general labor duties as needed
Qualifications:
Strong work ethic and positive attitude
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly
Reliable transportation to Portland ferry terminals
Ability to maintain a consistent ferry commute schedule
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools preferred but not required
Valid driver's license preferred
Ability to work well as part of a team
